Voices: Alex Rella

Meet Empowering UF Change Agent Alex Rella, Associate Director of Finance, UF/IFAS Extension

Alex Rella is no stranger to large-scale tech implementations and transformative change. He is positioning IFAS to be ready for the shift to Workday in summer 2027 with confidence and enthusiasm.

Have you had experience with a tech implementation before? Tell us more!
I led a full lifecycle ERP (enterprise resource planning) implementation in my previous role at a smaller institution, an experience that significantly transformed our operations. I oversaw the system selection, managed implementation of both financial and HCM modules, and ensured the ERP configuration aligned with our reporting structure. This work improved accuracy, streamlined workflows and strengthened our ability to use data effectively.

What do you think of UF’s approach to the long-term planning leading up to the Workday launch?
UF’s approach to long-term planning ahead of the Workday launch has been strong from a change management standpoint. The team has struck a balance between everyone’s desire for more information and sharing details when they are accurate and ready. Their focus on consolidating secondary system functions into Workday is strategic and positions us for long-term success. A unified system of record for managing our data will significantly improve usability and efficiency for all users.

What would you tell colleagues who are nervous about the changes ahead?
I would reassure colleagues that it is completely natural and rational to feel nervous during a transition. No system is perfect, but based on what we’ve seen, Workday brings the functionality and flexibility we expect from a modern ERP platform. Our team is working hard to clean up existing data and build clear communication pathways to support everyone through the change. While challenges are inevitable, this is truly a once-in-a-career opportunity to strengthen our operations and better support our mission.
