When we say Time Tracking, we mean the full process of managing employee work hours, including the following:
Time Tracking is how Workday captures, manages and validates the time employees work so they can be paid accurately and on time.
A time entry method that copies time blocks from a worker’s schedule or from a previous week onto the current week on the time entry calendar.
Result of applying time calculations to a worker’s reported time. Automates application of company or regulatory rules.
Legacy Term: Payable Time
Method of time entry most similar to a physical timeclock.
Legacy Term: Web clock
The ability to add or edit existing time blocks by double-clicking on the Time Entry Calendar.
Legacy Term: Punch Time
The Time Period Schedule defines the dates and times that a period is open, locked, unlocked for adjustments and closed for time entry within each pay period.
Legacy Term: Pay Period
A time entry method that enables you to create a time block for multiple days in a week at one time.
Legacy Term: New Term
A worker’s time that has been entered in the Time Entry Calendar (timesheet) but has not had any time calculations applied.
Legacy Term: Reported Time
A Time Block carries information about a portion of time, such as the in and out times and the number of hours worked. Time Blocks can be reported or calculated, but only calculated Time Blocks are pulled into Workday Payroll. A Time Block is created by entering an in and an out time in the Time Entry Calendar (timesheet).
Legacy Term: Timesheet Row
A Time Clock Event describes a worker’s actions, such as a check-in or check-out, on the web time clock. Workday matches Time Clock Events to form Time Blocks, which workers can edit and submit using the Time Entry Calendar.

A set of self-service pages that workers use to enter, edit and view time.
Legacy Term: Timesheet
A Time Entry Code describes the type of time a worker enters, such as worked time or on-call/callback.
Legacy Term: Time Reporting Code (TRC)
Errors or warnings that prevent users from entering invalid time. Critical validations prevent a user from submitting time. Warnings appear on the Time Entry Calendar but don’t prevent the user from submitting time.
